3.29.12 ~ Siblings

3.29.12 ~ Five Things

Five things about Nora:
1. She just started drooling. And finally started wearing size 0-3 months. We are kissing the newborn days goodbye.
2. She's been sleeping between 3 and 4 hours at the beginning of the night and then waking up every 2 hours after that.
3. She's been fussing less and having more long, quiet, wakeful, alert periods.
4. She looks damn cute in pink.
5. She likes to fall asleep while being rocked with her belly against yours.

Five things about Liam:
1. He's a maniac on his scooter.
2. He is finally pooping in the potty. And quite proud of it.
3. He is talking A LOT (like verbal diarrhea a lot) and saying new, grown up things all the time like "Join me at the table" and 'Many years ago.." and "I'm not doing so well"and "I am proud of myself".
4. His race car obsession has reached an all time high. We have watched the Cars movie at least 70 times. The sequel sucked. We only watched that once.
5. This is the sentence he hears most: "USE A BIG BOY VOICE AND GIVE YOUR SISTER SOME SPACE AND COVER YOUR MOUTH AND SIT STILL AND KEEP YOUR UNDERWEAR DRY!"

3.28.12 ~ Beautiful Children

What? I'm not biased.

3.28.12 ~ Happy Birthday Gram

She was partying it up at 90! I hope my kids (and husband) have a good dose of Gram's genes.

3.20.12 ~ Liam's Many Faces

On Sunday we took advantage of our rental car and drove to the Palisades Park across the GW bridge. Sorry about posting so many pictures. But there were so many I liked from our little outing. I especially love all of Liam's different facial expressions.

3.20.12 ~ More Scenes From B'more

...the car ride back to New York...

 ...and our reunion with Jason.

3.14.12 ~ Spring Break

Last Friday Nora and I went to her one month appointment with Dr. Zbar. Unfortunately, that will be our last time seeing her since she's leaving the practice. We are really going to miss her, but are happy that we also like her colleague, Dr. Hammond, quite a bit.

Nora weighed in at 8 lbs 8 oz (22nd percentile) and was about 20 inches long. Dr. Zbar and I talked some more about Nora's fussiness and my acid reflux theory. In conclusion, basically, we all just have to suck it up and wait it out. She'll either outgrow the fussy stage or her esophagus will mature and she'll outgrow the reflux. Dr. Zbar only gives anti acid medication to babies who are losing weight because they are in too much pain to eat. And Nora is clearly growing and eating just fine. Plus, neither of us is really sure that her fussiness is really due to reflux anyway. I have plenty of other theories that can't be ruled out. And honestly, its not always that bad. She has some good days and some bad days. And, so far, I haven't been able to detect a real pattern. She'll likely grow out of it before we really figure it out.

Since then, we've evacuated to Baltimore to spend time with Liam and Nora's grandparents. Liam's school is closed for Spring Break and Jason has lots of work to catch up on. We all agreed that for everyone's sanity it might be good if I'm not alone with both kids all week. So, after some last minute planning, phone calling, and car renting, we met my parents in Philly where we transferred the car seats, luggage, and children and then rode the rest of the way to Baltimore (leaving Jason to return to New York). Liam has been spending most of his time with his Nana while I've been at my parents' house enjoying some one-on-one time with Nora.

Here are some scenes from Baltimore (where it's been warm and sunny and has even reached into the 80's!):

Oh, and one more thing: Have I mentioned that Nora is SMILING? Real, social smiles, not fake gas smiles. At first I thought there was no way she could be social smiling this early. Even Dr. Zbar was skeptical when I asked her. But now I have witnesses who have seen her respond to our smiles with smiles of her own. And she's doing it more and more consistently. She smiles back the most right after she first wakes up and she's feeling  rested. Her sweet, beautiful smiles certainly make her long crying bouts more tolerable. Trapped under that angry, sobbing baby is a happy, calm girl just waiting to emerge!

3.4.12 ~ First (Real) Bath

Yesterday Nora finally lost her umbilical stump. You know what that means...

3.4.12 ~ Emi and Miya Visit

We love us some Miya and Emi!

Weirdly, we had more than one baby in the house that day...
