10.31.12 ~ Lately...

We have survived hurricane Sandy and are preparing for our epic journey to San Diego for Vera and Chas's wedding. I'm not being dramatic by saying epic either. Our flight got cancelled because of the storm, so tomorrow - with two kids  - we will drive to DC, fly to Dallas, fly to Irvine, and then drive to San Diego.

I took a little break from packing and freaking out about tomorrow to upload these adorable trick or treating pictures. My cute kids are only friends with other cute kids, by the way.

10.20.12 ~ Epic Battle

..between Green Goblin and Spiderman. The winner gets a trophy.

10.17.12 ~ The Best Babysitter

Sorry, did you think you had the best babysitter? You are wrong. We do.

This semester has been a little crazy because during one of our two home days (we typically do three days of school and two days at home),  I am currently teaching a class. This means I spend the morning frantically preparing a lecture and the afternoon frantically lecturing the lecture. Meanwhile, Nora and Liam are at home with Erica, the greatest babysitter of all time. She had her work cut out for her in the beginning because Liam was not stoked about having a sitter. If you are an adult and you have met Liam then you know he is slow to warm  around grownups. But warm he did. It took about three weeks (and a little bit of bribery) for Erica to win him over. But now that she has, she and Liam have a really sweet bond (her bond with Nora was a given since she is also a teacher in Nora’s classroom at school). Liam looks forward to her coming over and talks about her even when she isn't there. Aside from making friends with  Liam the ice queen, she is also the greatest sitter ever because she does cute, fun activities with the kids. Today they set out to purchase pumpkins and then came home to paint them. Erica shared a little video, which I will now share with you. The quality is only eh since said sharing happened via text. But you’ll get the picture. And in case you miss it – the take away message is that Liam’s painted pumpkin has ears and more than the regular number of eye balls.

10.17.12 ~ Biking

This one is for those siblings of mine who bought Liam his bike last year when he turned three.

10.14.12 ~ More Videos

Get ready to be entertained by a lot more videos of my children from now on. I just figured out how easy it is to get videos from my phone onto this blog.

How cute and excited is she? Jason wasn't here for this particular video, but anytime he walks in - the kicking and flapping start just like this. Also, Liam is a little punk. Luckily, he didn't step on her at the end... but he did get in trouble.

My little punk is going to be Spiderman for Halloween since he's *obsessed*. We got his costume last weekend and he's worn it every day since. The sound making web thrower glove thing was a special surprise for him after he endured yet another traumatic trip to the dentist on Monday (that's a whole other post). Spiderman is not what I would have chosen for him. But letting him be what he wants to be instead of what I want him to be for Halloween is a good exercise in relinquishing control. I need all the practice I can get in that area. And I have to admit, his little Spiderman moves are pretty entertaining.

10.13.12 ~ Sleeping Beauty

10.13.12 ~ Videos

This video is from a few weeks ago and when Nora was being particularly cranky about her food. She wasn't into eating pureed food until very recently - unless whatever it was had A LOT of breast milk mixed in. It was almost like I was offending her by putting such disgusting crap in her mouth. But then suddenly a switch flipped and now she's pretty eager to eat just about anything I give her. That girl only does things on her own time.

Liam has been OBSESSED with Spiderman recently. He's only actually seen the cartoon a hand full of times, but he and his friends play super heros at school all day long. And at home he sings about Spiderman a lot.

This is Liam playing soccer this morning. Usually Jason takes him to his Saturday morning soccer practice and Nora and I stay home for some much cherished down time. But this weekend Jason is away and I got the pleasure of jogging with both kids in the stroller for almost 20 blocks to try and get Liam there on time. His class is so early that the streets are still empty at that hour. His class is so early that Jason and Liam will likely be headed there in the dark in about another month. His class is so early that it has yet to interfere with any weekend plans we have had because no other human is awake and doing anything at that hour on a Saturday. Anyway, Liam is super cute playing soccer. And if it seems like his balance is really bad - it's not. He falls down on purpose to be "like the guys on TV".

And this is Liam and Nora in the tub earlier tonight. He makes her laugh. He also torments her, but I chose not to catch that part on film.

10.10.12 ~ Happy Birthday to Jason

Thirty five years ago Carol Steele was doing a lot of work to bring this little guy into the world:

And (on most days anyway) I'm sure glad she did. That sweet little baby has grown up to become a wonderful father, a dedicated sports fan, a skilled sales tax consultant, a passionate debater, a terrible singer, a great rapper, and my loving husband. And he's pretty funny with the jokes too.
Happy Birthday, Jason! (And thank you, Carol!).

10.10.12 ~ For Mom

My Mom requested a video of Nora rolling because I told her that it's how Nora gets around. Lately she's been trying to crawl too - but her effort is pretty pathetic. Somehow it involves her hitting her head on the floor a lot. But if she never crawls, its ok - she's super at rolling. I apologize because this video gets a little sea-sicky as I try and rescue Nora from Liam's apparently non-baby-proofed room. Also, her rolling is much more impressive in real life. I was not successful in coaxing her across the room with Liam's toys - she just wanted to hang out with the fan - and then it all falls apart at the end. But, look, it is what it is, folks. Here you go, Mom:

10.5.12 ~ Liam and Nora, Month by Month, Side by Side

10.5.12 ~ 8 Months Old

Nora turned 8 months old yesterday... the same day that her first tooth poked through. Bottom left.
