3.23.11 ~ Life on the Road

There are many roads that run through our home. The windowsill is just one of them.

It's narrow with no guardrail, so it's a risky place to drive. Especially when passing on the left.

But with the right man behind the wheel(s), traffic runs pretty smoothly.

Oh, and, the windowsill road also doubles as a parking lot.

3.18.11 ~ Spring break

I forgot to mention that Liam and I have been home together this week because it’s Spring Break. Since I work on my dissertation independently, it doesn’t really mean anything for me. But Liam’s school is closed all week; A fact that I didn’t fully realize until last Thursday when my friend Lynda called it to my attention. And then I had a moment of panic because my dissertation data hearing is scheduled for mid April and losing a whole week to work is just not good. So my week with Liam is sandwiched between two work-filled weekends to try and make up for it.

Anyway, Liam and I have had a very nice week together. I really want to write that it’s been fun to slow down and do nothing for a week. But there is nothing slow about spending five days straight with a toddler. I find that the less plans we have, the more exhausting it is for me because Liam needs entertainment, stimulation, and some way to expend his kid energy. All tough to do while cooped up in a New York apartment alone together. So, instead we packed a lot of activity into this week. We had lunch with Shannon, had Emi and Haley visit us, played in puddles, went to the zoo with Miya and Emi, had Noah and Margo visit us, and have plans to go meet up with Simon, Lynda, and Rachel this afternoon.

A few times this week Liam’s asked me “Toddler room?” I’m not sure if he means “How come I haven’t been to the toddler room lately?” or “Are we going to the toddler room tomorrow?” or “Hey Lady, you are boring and I need to go back to the toddler room where there’s more to do. Thanks.” I’m hoping it’s one of the first two.

P.S. I owe Phil an apology because I promised him indoor soccer footage and haven't delivered. The problem is that I haven't been able to get anything good on film. Every time I get out the video camera, Liam stops playing soccer and wants to watch the video back. So, hopefully this weekend, when Jason is here to play with him, Liam will be a little more focused on his game and less focused on the camera.

3.16.11 ~ A Few Things

Skating and surfing

Thanks to a few subtle things in his environment (one Yo Gabba Gabba episode, a certain book from Vera and Chas, and a few kids around our neighborhood) Liam has a new interest in skateboarding and surfing. Mostly skate boarding. In fact, he keeps asking for a skateboard. He says he “needs” one. Which is the first thing I think he’s ever asked for (besides like milk in a cup and snacks and a diaper change).

Puddles

Today we had another nice post-rainy day in the park. The puddles were really intense. Good thing it wasn’t really cold outside, because Liam got soaked.

Graham Crackers

Today Liam and I were having Graham Crackers dipped in milk for snack (a la Angela Vasoli; though, minus the peanut butter because Jason ate it all). I asked Liam “Aren’t graham crackers so good?” and he said “OH yeah”.

Naked Baby

On Tuesday, when I told Liam it was bath time he looked at me and said “run naked?” And that meant exactly that. He wanted to (and did) sprint back and forth from one end of the apartment to the other… naked. He stopped in front of the oven where he admired his own reflection for a few seconds before racing back to the living room. I have video of that too… but I won’t be posting it on the internet. You’re welcome, Liam.

3.06.11 ~ Artful and Sweet

On Friday night we went to Liam’s School’s Art Show. It was chaotic, but really nice.

Right off the bat, he wanted to get his face painted:

But quickly changed his mind....
....and then the Painter became the Paintee:

Most of this weekend was spent running around to different mobile stores and on the phone with Sprint trying to get a new phone for me (I lost it a week ago...and I did eventually get a new one... and its awesome. Call me!). Despite that, we did manage to have some nice moments this weekend. Like pancakes this morning. Here’s Liam using his syrup dinosaur that his Nana sent him.

Also, this is the face that Liam makes when you ask him to smile for the camera. Can you guess who Jason and I agree that this picture looks like?

You guessed it. Garth from Waynes World - - Right??!

3.03.11 ~ Kids Say the Dardnest Things

“Eeyore’s yoga!” In response to a picture of Eeyore with his head on the ground.

“A bit dark outside. Sun sleeping.”

“Mommy big boy!” Because I was standing one step above him in the stairwell.

As we were walking by a church “What’s that? Mommy, look, a letter 't'! In the sky!”

“Bump big head” Talking about Jason bumping his head on the door.

“Animals great” After a trip to the zoo.

“Mommy’s Beans” his name for edamame beans.
