4.5.12 ~ Two Months Old

Yesterday Nora turned two months old.

However, it's been a rough week for her. First, she got Liam's cold which comes complete with a gnarly cough. And second, the pictures above were taken a mere 24 hours after Nora tumbled off the dining room table onto the tile kitchen floor. I'll jump to the end of the story to save everyone the suspense and say she's fine (hence the pictures above). And I'll spare you the details about how I always put her on the table in her bouncy seat despite warnings on the labels, how the seat must have been hanging off the edge without me realizing it, how I was making breakfast and turned the other way when I heard a crash behind me, how she screamed like I have never heard a baby scream before, how we noticed a big red spot developing on her forehead indicating she had hit her head, how Liam got scared and also started crying, how Jason and I scrambled to get Nora and me in a cab - both in barely more than pajamas, and how they rushed us right back to be seen in the ER. (Nothing makes you think  "oh shit" more than jumping ahead of everyone waiting in the emergency room.) But the thing is, Nora actually stopped crying before we even left the apartment. And in the cab she made eye contact and even smiled at me a few times. And while we waited in the ER for her CT scan, she peacefully nursed,  fell asleep, and then slept through the scan. But yet, I was so scared of what the scan would show. So, when the scan came back negative (HUGE SIGH OF RELIEF), I was beyond thankful.

From the ER we went right up to the pediatrician's office for Nora's (previously scheduled) two month check up. Dr. Hammond examined her again to make sure we hadn't missed any bruises or broken bones. It wasn't until that second check that my blood pressure finally started to come down.

This morning we went back to the pediatrician for one more follow up and to get the vaccinations we skipped on Tuesday. Dr. Hammond said that if anything were wrong - anything that was missed on the scan - we would have seen symptoms by now. So, it really does seem that we totally dodged the bullet. Nora doesn't even have a bruise where the red mark on her forehead had initially appeared. Based on the distance she fell and the hardness of the floor, it's a true miracle that she's completely ok.

Since Tuesday I just keep staring at her and thinking about how lucky we are. So, obviously the bouncy seat stays at sea level from now on. And hopefully Nora gets over this cold very soon so that we can get on with convincing her that life isn't always this miserable.

Seriously worst day ever. I'm so glad she's ok. And don't beat yourself up too much :)
