5.25.12 ~ School Update

I should have worried about Liam instead of Nora. Even though Liam had been doing really great with his visits to the preschool room over the past few weeks and he had a wonderful Monday in the preschool room, it all caught up with him on Thursday morning. A full meltdown ensued complete with declarations of "I am NOT a preschooler! I am a TODDLER!". Maybe it was because we were at the dentist yesterday morning which shook his confidence a little or maybe it just took a little while for this transition to sink in with him. But I had to drop him off in the toddler room where he was comfortable with his old friends. I thought I'd leave him there and eventually he'd happily venture down to the preschool room. However, the teachers later reported back to me that a second meltdown occurred when he was supposed to go with the preschoolers to their classroom. However, after his hissy fit he did end up going and seemed to have a pretty smooth afternoon with his new class. And this morning he was a little clingy at drop off but then seemed to have a very nice day. So let's hope the "I'm a TODDLER!" fits are behind us for good.

Nora, on the other hand, has taken the first real separation from her Mama like a champ. The transition into the infant room is a slow one. So, Monday I spent about an hour in there with her. Then yesterday I stayed with her for a bit and then left her for just a couple of hours. And today she spent four hours in the infant room without me. She has now successfully taken a bottle there (which she would not do for Jason or me at home) and taken several naps there. When she's in the room she's a little celebrity because she's the youngest baby. All of the other kids want to see her and touch her and the teachers are all very attentive and sweet with her. She seems to like all of the attention. Her eyes get really wide while trying to take in everything happening around her. And if you hold her the wrong way, she cranes her neck to see the other kids. I'm proud of my little Nora Bear for adjusting to this change so well.

As for me, I thoroughly enjoyed sitting down at my computer this morning and being to able to focus for a few hours, uninterrupted.

This was on Monday, on the way to Nora's first day of school. Of course it rained.
